Grade 1 Atocha CoinsGrade 1 Atocha coins were salvaged from the interior most
portion of the treasure chest, and thus exhibit minimal amounts of salt
water damage. Typically, they are clearly struck on both the obverse
and reverse sides with the mintmark, assayer mark and denomination often
all visible. Atocha coins are supplied with the
original photo type Certificate of Authenticity and a booklet "Shipwrecks
and Their Coins: Volume 1 - 1622 Spanish Treasure Fleet" that
provides details about the fleet and its coins.
Display your Atocha coin and Certificate of Authenticity in our multiple
sleeved display folder. Mount your Atocha
coin in a 14k Gold Bezel.

Grade 1+, beautiful full cross with bold
details on the upper half lion and castle, exceptional deep struck full shield with a bold
mint mark P, top portion of the assayer mark M, and denomination mark VIII.
Assayer M held office in 1617, the first year that coins were
struck with dates at the Potosi mint. This huge, full
weight, and practically as struck coin exhibits nearly perfectly centered details on both
sides and has great eye appeal. An excellent grade 1 coin,
the best one could hope to find on the market today. |

| Grade 1+,
exceptional full cross with a near perfect castle and lion in
the left cross quadrants. Deep struck full shield with
mint and assayer marks P and R. The assayer mark R is
double struck (die bounce during the hand strike) and is
mistakenly identified as a rare assayer mark PT on the
certificate. Assayer R (Baltasar Ramos Leceta) held office
at the Potosi mint from 1605 to 1613.
This
beautiful coin would rate
in the top 5% of all those recovered from the Atocha wreck. |
